PortSys offers device validation for Office 365 in Total Access Control

TAC binds identification of hardware devices to user accounts to strengthen access control

MARLBOROUGH, MA – October 11, 2018PortSys®, a global innovator in information security and access control for the enterprise, today announced that it now offers device validation for Office 365 in Total Access Control™ (TAC).

By binding identification of a hardware device to a user’s credentials, TAC helps organizations negate all sorts of security challenges, including brute force, dictionary and phishing attacks. According to Verizon’s 2017 Data Breach Investigation Report, 7.3 percent of users fell victim to phishing attacks, and 15 percent of unique users who fell victim once also took the bait a second time.

With TAC, once a device is approved by a security administrator, the user must have both their valid credentials and the approved hardware device before access is authorized to the Office 365 account. TAC also enables organizations to incorporate other factors of authentication, such as certifications, to strengthen access control even further for both local and cloud applications.

TAC’s device validation for Office 365 makes it vastly easier for security administrators to control the privileges of a specific hardware device. For example, if a user loses an approved mobile phone but still has an approved tablet or laptop, the administrator can now block access just to the mobile phone, while still authenticating access through the other devices.

Administrators can also do a full or partial wipe to protect any information that may be on a lost device. If the device is found again, the administrator can just as easily unwipe the device, allowing the user to access information again immediately.

“As the use of Microsoft Office 365 continues to grow, organizations need to take a hard look at how they are controlling access to it,” said Michael Oldham, CEO of PortSys. “TAC’s device validation is a silent second factor of authentication that provides users frictionless access applied consistently across both local and cloud applications. TAC makes the user’s life easier while at the same time dramatically strengthening your organization’s security profile.”
