PortSys enhances secure access for RDP through Total Access Control

Upgrade applies security for remote users based on context of access

MARLBOROUGH, MA – August 21, 2017PortSys®, a global innovator in information security and access control for the enterprise, today announced that Total Access Control™ (TAC) now provides a more secure way for its customers to deploy RDP to remote users using enhanced security policies.

Unlike traditional approaches to RDP deployments, TAC enables enterprise organizations to seamlessly check on the context of access for remote users before granting access to critical local and cloud applications. Security policies within TAC confirm users are who they claim to be, and whether the workstations or methods of communication being used remotely as endpoints can be trusted.

TAC uses multiple factors for authorization based on context of access that go beyond traditional credentials such as user name and password. For instance, organizations can now set security policies within TAC that incorporate the location of the remote access, device identification, and whether the anti-virus and security certificate for the accessing device are up to date.

If TAC determines the user credentials are valid but the context of access is untrusted, TAC can restrict access to certain applications, disable the ability of users to save files to their remote devices, or prevent them from using the clipboard.

“Previous RDP approaches gave malevolent operators too many opportunities to break out of an open desktop on the remote session, gain unauthorized access to commands, and then wreak havoc across the enterprise,” said Michael Oldham, CEO of PortSys. “The intelligence built within TAC serves as an arbiter to securely decide on the front end who gets access to what application at any given time. This insulates the enterprise from the risks of security breaches, while not crippling the end user so they can still be productive from a remote location.”

TAC makes security simpler, stronger and more unified, offering customers an all-inclusive approach to secure access to valuable resources wherever they may reside, local or cloud. TAC brings together multiple security and access technologies – including VPN, SSL/VPN, SSO, Portal, Multifactor Authentication, MDM, Application Firewall, Cloud Access Control and more – into a single, scalable solution that manages access across the enterprise.
